Grammar – reported speech.
In the lesson:
- HW
- Today’s topic – grammar, reported speech
- On the board (He said, She told us, They explained…):
- said, told (who), explained
- Change the time to PAST:
- present > past
- past simple > past perfect
- past perfect > past perfect
- will > would
- can > could
- Do not change:
- could, should, would, might, used to
- ex: You could visit her website > He said I could visit her website.
- could, should, would, might, used to
- Special rule:
- suggested, demanded, insisted
- we can use instead of the past tense: “that he/she/they etc… should do(present tense)“
- ex: Direct: You must give us your autograph!
- exp: Rep: We insisted that she gave us her autograph. (past)
- or: Rep: We insisted that she should give us her autograph. (should + present)
- suggested, demanded, insisted
